Abstract:
One of the main concerns of the Kurds of Iraq who have been struggling for their Independency throughout the history is the formation of the Kurdish republic. Kurds have faced serious internal and external challenges, but they succeed to overcome some of these challenges. However, in the current situation, they consider the disagreement or the lack of supports of the transregional players and in specific the United States as the main obstacle for their independency.
When Trump came to power, once again speculation was rife over the discretion of Trump’s future-America toward Independency of Kurdish Region and Kurds held some hopes, as well.
By explaining the principles of Trump’s policies in the Middle East and the role Kurds can play, this paper attempts to illustrate the internal obstacles and external challenges facing the Iraqi Kurdistan in their way to achieving their independency in Trump’s era.
Given the dominance of the commercial-economic discourse of Trump and his business view toward developments in which the existence of a stable and efficient government is necessary, the underlying assumption of this paper is that there is no room for moving toward independency, forming a Kurdish republic and disrupting previous orders.
