Effective Teaching in Higher Education Based on Professional Experiences of Professors and Its Relationship with Self-Reported Teaching

Abstract:
The aim of the present research is to investigate effective teaching based on professional experience of professors and its relationship with their self-reported teaching in Azerbaijan Shahid Madani University in 2015-2016 educational year. The method of this study is descriptive-correlation and the population includes all of professors in this university. From this population 114 individuals are selected by relationship-category sampling and based on of Morgan's Table (144 persons) as the sample. The data are collected through certain questionnaire of effective teaching and questionnaire of self-reported teaching which are provided based on Likert scales. The content reliability of the questionnaires is confirmed by professors and the validity, calculated based on Cronbach's (alpha), equals to .76 for influential teaching and .85 for self-reported teaching. The analysis of data is conducted in two phases of descriptive and deductive statistics (Pearson coefficient, one way Variance analysis). The findings indicate that there is a relationship between effective teaching and self-reported teaching in the viewpoints of Azerbaijan Shahid Madani University's professors. Professors pay attention to the professional component more than the components of the communication and technical. There is difference between the amounts of professor's attention to every influential teaching component regarding their fields. In addition, three components of professional, technical and communication, in order from highest to lowest, has attracted the attention of professors.
