Review and critique of Shokani’s opinion regarding constructing dome and shrine
Salafi Wahhabites leaded by Ibn Teymieh and his followers holds the belief that all the constructions and shrines on the tombs are indicators of infidelity and polytheism. Therefore, they believe that all shrines of the prophets and the righteous resemble idles for infidels and the presence of the Muslims in such places are form of worshipping. Influenced by the Wahhabites, Shokani thinks that constructing dome and shrine on tombs is heresy and unlawful. He considers such constructions as a massive conspiracy organized by Satan to mislead the Islamic nation. To substantiate his claim, he uses arguments such as unity of the Islamic nation, and he also refers to narrations about polytheism. The present paper deals with reviewing and criticizing Shokani’s arguments in the issue of constructing dome and shrine.
