A Comparison of Coronary Smoker and Nonsmoker Men Based on Brain/Behavioral Systems
Cardiovascular diseases are the most frequent reasons of death and disability around the world. Smoking and its relationship with personality traits is one of factors affecting the cardiovascular disease. The present research was aimed to compare coronary smoker and nonsmoker men based on Brain/Behavioral Systems. Therefore, 162 smoky coronary men and 176 non smoky coronary men who referred to Tabriz Shahid Madani hospital completed the Carver- White BIS/BAS scale. Then, based on the final scores, 200 men with Coronary Heart Disease (100 smokers and 100 nonsmokers) were selected by available sampling. (Age range 25-62, mean 51). Data were analyzed by MANOVA. Results showed that there were differences in BAS as a whole, and smoker patients showed high levels of performance in all its subscales include drive, reward responsiveness, and fun seeking (pro smoker patients). Also results showed that there were differences in BIS and nonsmoker patients exhibited high levels a performance in BIS.
Based on our study, BAS patients had higher trend to smok than BIS patients. Then in BAS patients, it is better Along with pharmaceutical interventions, wide educational intervention designed to increase awareness about the dangers of smoking in BAS patients should be done.
