Using remote sensing data and GIS tools for preparation earthquake hazard zoning map of Khersan 2 dam site, Iran
The high cost of constructing important structures such as dams justifies the urgent need for studies of earthquake risk and earthquake sequestration. Khorsan 2 Dam is one of the largest water projects in the country, located 60 kilometers south of Lordgan. Due to the importance of this water project, it is necessary to investigate seismicity and earthquake hazard in the area of the dam. The study area is located in the Zagros tectonic unit and below the folded tectonic unit of the geological divisions of Iran. Satellite imagery, earthquake information, geological, tectonic maps, active and fundamental faults, regional tectonic trends were identified and the seismicity of the area was evaluated. Seismic hazard analysis of the study area using the Gutenberg-Richter preliminary probability of occurrence of earthquakes measuring 5 to 5.5on the Richter scale in the next 100 years and 100% of earthquakes measuring 7 on the Richter scale below 39% Predicts. Based on the available information, a map of the earthquake hazard zoning was prepared. The study area was divided into four segments with high, medium, low and very low risk. Accordingly, the Khorsan 2 Dam site was located in an area with very low earthquake risk. Finally, practical suggestions have been made to study the seismic trend and nature near the dam site.
