Qualitative analysis of atmospheric perception in the architectural experience (Case study: Selected works of contemporary Iranian architecture
The issue of atmospheric perception in architecture as a suitable solution of human emotional coexistence in interaction with place is a kind of phenomenological discourse with a new aesthetic approach.This study deals with the position of the body in the process of atmospheric sensory perception from the perspective of Merleau-Ponty perception. . The method of this research is qualitative, analytical and interpretive with the field of phenomenology of bodily sensory perceptions and has been selected from the perspective of Merleau-Ponty ideas as well as free, axial and selective coding methods.In the present study, in-depth interviews have been used to explore the components of creating the atmosphere of the place through bodily perception and the heart of the interviewees' response. The research findings are based on the fact that atmospheric perception leads to strengthening the relationship between real experience and mental dimensions so that from this reinforced feeling, deep experiences of space and time occur before the audience and play a role in explaining the architectural meaning. The result shows that atmospheric perception occurs through the integration of the audience with space and the integration of memory and imagination in a bodily process and has an intuitive and physical nature and highlights the ability of the architectural effect in creating and directing the behavior of the audience. Components such as matter and texture, light and shadow, mass, geometry and scale, context and context, architectural details and climate play a decisive role in the process of creating atmospheric perception.
