Abstract:
Knowing the mysteries and miracles of Quran can guide human kind; one of the ways to reach that knowledge is to study Quran based on new scientific approaches. This paper attempts to analyze Surah Al Morsalat based on Austin's Speech Act Theory. Sureh Al Morsalat is in 29th Joz of Quran. It has 50 verses. Data collection is library type and the approach is analytic-descriptive. Results show that the most used type of speech act in this Surah is commissive: taking an oath, threatening, and promising. Representatives and directives respectively come second and third in their frequency of occurrence. There are six interrogative statements analysed based on Badr Al Din Zarkeshi model. In addition, the temporal and geographical orientation of this Surah along with the nature of content and theme, that is, Resurrection Day, has made it employ commissive speech act particularly threat. Implementation, integration, and layout of different speech acts in this Surah prove how wisely precision and elegance is employed in Quran. It also shows that these verses have been employed by Allah in the most exquisite and beautiful manner to illustrate the Resurrection Day.
