    Background

    Today, the impact of oral health on indicators of quality of life is of great importance. As few studies have evaluated dental students who are future dentists of a society, this study was performed to assess the impact of awareness on oral health-related quality of life on first, third- and sixth-year Shahid Beheshti dental students in 2017-2018.

    Methods

    This descriptive cross-sectional and analytical study was conducted on 220 Shahid Beheshti dental students. The required data was collected by using a sociodemographic questionnaire (including gender, academic year indicating level of awareness, and GPA) and Persian version of oral health-related quality of life questionnaire, OHIP-14. The questionnaires’ scores were compared by one-way analysis of variance (ANOVA) or Welch’s t-test.

    Results

    The average total score of OHIP-14 questionnaire in dental students was 8.26 (SD=7.41). A significant relationship between the academic year and oral health-related quality of life was not noticed except in “Psychological Discomfort” domain where oral health-related quality of life deteriorated with an increase in the academic year (p=0.0001).

    Conclusion

    Oral health-related quality of life in dental students did not change significantly with an increase in the academic year except in “Psychological Discomfort” domain.

    تحولات بزرگی که در چند سال اخیر در جهان عرب اتفاق افتاد و پس لرزه های آن همچنان ادامه دارد، توجه بسیاری از محققان و تحلیل گران در حوزه انقلاب ها را به خود جلب کرده است. در این میان نظریه های ساختارگرایانه از مهم ترین رویکردهای پژوهشگران در تبیین انقلاب ها است. در میان این نظریه ها، نظریه انقلاب اجتماعی در کتاب«دولت ها و انقلاب های اجتماعی» مشهورترین نمونه در میان نسل سوم نظریه های انقلاب می باشد. اما با توجه به آنچه که اسکاچپول اذعان دارد، نظریه وی توانایی تبیین انقلاب ایران را ندارد. از اینرو سوالی که ایجاد می شود این است که آیا اسکاچپول باید تنها نظریه اش را در مورد ایران تغییر دهد یا خیر و این نظریه توانایی تبیین سایر انقلاب های جهان اسلام را دارد. بنابراین هدف مقاله، «مقایسه انقلاب های مصر، تونس» بر اساس نظریه انقلاب اجتماعی است. سوال اصلی این مقاله این است که آیا نظریه انقلاب اجتماعی قابلیت تبیین انقلاب های مصر و تونس را دارد؟ فرضیه مقاله این است که نظریه انقلاب اجتماعی نه تنها توانایی تببین انقلاب ایران را ندارد بلکه این امر در مورد سایر انقلاب های جهان اسلام نیز صدق می کند.

    Over the last few years, some great developments have taken place in the Arab world and the aftershocks remain to entice the attention of many revolutionary scholars and analysts. Structuralist theories are among the most significant approaches of scholars in explaining revolutions. Among these theories, social revolution theory is the most famous example of the third generation of revolutionary theories which have been introduced "States and Social Revolutions" by Skocpol. But according to what Skocpol acknowledges, her theory is incapable of explaining the Iranian revolution. The question that arises is, therefore, whether or not Skocpol should change her theory about Iran alone, and her theory has the potential to explain other revolutions in the Muslim world. The purpose of the paper is therefore to "compare the revolutions of Egypt and Tunisia" according to the theory of social revolution. The main question in this article is whether social revolution theory can explain the revolutions of Egypt and Tunisia. The hypothesis of the article is that the theory of social revolution not only has not the ability to explain the Iranian revolution, but it cannot also explain other revolutions in the Islamic world.

    Objectives: To evaluate barriers for production of scientific dental articles by Iranian dental faculty members. Methods: An anonymous self-administered questionnaire distributed among faculty members of all dental schools in Iran during June-December 2010. The respondents rated their level of agreement with eleven sentences regarding what they perceive as barriers on scientific dental article production based on a 5-point Likert scale. The data were analyzed using Chi-square test. Results: Totally, 330 faculty members completed the questionnaires; >50% were men, and >40 year-olds. About three-fourth of the respondents were assistant professor. More than 80% of the respondents reported to have at least one published Persian article and >50% at least one published English article; older faculty members more than younger, and associate professors more than other academic ranks (p<0.01). “No access to an English editing center”, “insufficient skill for scientific writing in English”, “inappropriate condition for writing in dental school”, and “time limit due to high load of clinical work in dental school” were top four rated perceived barriers. Conclusion: The concerns of faculty members for the production of scientific dental documents must be considered. Provision of proper time and condition for writing in the dental school, enhancement of their capacity for scientific writing and establishment of an English editing center in each university may facilitate scientific article production
