The existence of the world of purgatory is certain from the point of view of the Qur'an and the Supreme Wisdom, and both of them are of the opinion that after leaving the elemental body, the human soul enters the world of purgatory and continues its life with an exemplary body and purgatory. Why the world of purgatory and how the body of purgatory is the two main questions of the seekers of truth, which we are trying to answer in this article with a descriptiveanalytical method, and for this purpose, first with proofs, some of which are completely new, to prove the principle of the world of purgatory and The reason for it has been discussed and then the question of how the Barzakhi body has been answered by capturing the most comprehensive features of the Barzakhi body from the main works of the Supreme Wisdom. The innovation of the present research is, firstly, to capture the sixteen characteristics of the Barzakh body, and secondly, to present some new and simple arguments to prove the principle of the world of Barzakh.

resurrection and afterlife are two main principles of Islamic belief among Muslims. This principles are of such a paramount importance that non-belief in them leads to infidelity and exclusion from Islam. The immateriality and immortality of soul form the foundation of resurrection. Before Mulla Sadra’s time, Resurrection as well as the type and quality of afterlife had been discussed from the perspective of Kalām and as one of its sub-branches dealing with soul, its mortality and immortality after death. Mulla Sadra discussed the afore-mentioned points from philosophical viewpoint and somehow links them to the Movement on the Transcendence of Human Soul as well as its powers and perceptions. He holds that partial perception takes place after death through imagination. Imagination power remains attached to soul after death. Thus, in the present study attempts are made to discuss this principle and the views of the philosophers in this regard.

Al-Barzakh is one of stages of Existential worlds. This World is between Phenomenal World and Afterworld. After death, the human being enter in it with a ideal body (frame) or purgatorial body. This issue can be proven by Quran, Hadith and Theology. As well, theologians have argued about grave and Purgatory and related subjects such as Question and Answer after death (in grave), the torture in grave, the Purgatorial Life, Purgatorial development, Reward and Punishment in Barzakh, Intercession in purgatory, relationship of people of the Isthmus, duration of stay in the Isthmus and so on. This topic is very wide and the study of philosophical and mystical perspective need to a new opportunity, therefore in this article we merely confine in theological and traditional perpective.

The term, “Barzakh” (inter-world) has different literal and technical meanings, and confusing them leads to misunderstanding. This preoccupation was the motive behind this article to sift through to works of philosophers, gnostics, and theologians in order to clarify the exact meanings they invest this term with. The authors conclude that Muslim philosophers use the term “barzakh” to refer to a world between the material and the intellectual worlds, and they divide it into distinct and indistinct ones. Gnostics, on the other hand, divide it into ascending and descending ones. They together form parts of the philosophers’ distinct mithāl. For theologians, however, barzakh represents the intermediary gap between one’s death and the one’s resurrection in the hereafter. It differs, conceptually, from that of philosophers and Gnostics, but it refers to the ascending curve of barzakh in Gnostics.
