Respecting the rights of patients is one of the care priorities that should be paid attention to by nurses. In this regard, cultural nursing interventions are one of the effective ways to preserve and promote it. This study was conducted to determining the effect of implementing care based on cultural competence on the attitude towards respecting patients' rights among nurses working in Ayatollah Taleghani Hospital, Kermanshah.

    Methods

The present study was a semi-experimental study with a pre-test-post-test design and a control group, the research community of which was formed by nurses working at Ayatollah Taleghani Hospital in Kermanshah in the first half of 1400. 60 nurses who met the entry criteria entered the study through available sampling and were randomly classified into two test and control groups. To collect data, the nurses' demographic information form and the attitude questionnaire toward respecting patients' rights were used, which were completed by the participants before and two months after the implementation of the intervention. The intervention group received skills based on cultural competence, including its concepts and components, dimensions, principles and prerequisites, and practical skills to increase it during one month in four sessions in person and virtually. Data were analyzed with SPSS version 20 statistical software and using descriptive and inferential statistical tests.

    Results

There was no statistically significant difference between the intervention and control groups in terms of demographic characteristics. The attitude towards respecting patients' rights in nurses before the intervention was 43.50 ± 7.11 in the nurses of the test group and 42.10 ± 4.10 in the nurses of the control group, which did not have a statistically significant difference (p=0.73). However, after the intervention, it reached 49.96 ± 6.93 in the test group and 42.00 ± 4.39 in the control group, which was significant in the test group (P<0.001).

    Conclusion

Considering the effectiveness of training and implementation of care based on cultural competence in the attitude toward respecting the rights of patients in nurses, it is suggested that health trustees and nursing managers use the results of this research to preserve and respect the rights of patients and empower nurses in the field of cultural competence.

Compliance with patients’ rights by medical sciences students requires an understanding of the patients’ rights charter. This study aimed to assess the awareness of medical sciences students regarding the patients’ rights charter. A descriptive cross-sectional study was conducted, involving all final-year medical sciences students at Alborz University of Medical Sciences, Iran (n=370). Samples were selected using convenience sampling, and data were collected through a questionnaire designed to evaluate awareness of the patients’ rights charter. The study included 269 students. The results indicated that over half of the students possessed a moderate level of awareness about the patients’ rights charter. Analysis of specific domains revealed that the right to access services had the highest percentage, while the right to personal autonomy had the lowest percentage of awareness. Furthermore, analysis of variance revealed that medical students exhibited the highest level of awareness. Given the moderate level of awareness among medical sciences students regarding the patients’ rights charter, it is essential to design and implement plans to enhance their understanding of patients’ rights.

    Background and Objective

Respecting the patient's rights is one of the most important components of providing humanistic care and a priority in the field of medical ethics in Iran. Therefore, the charter of patients' rights in Iran was announced in 2009 as a practice guide in this field. This study was conducted with the aim of investigating the realization of patient rights from the viewpoint of doctors, nurses and patients hospitalized in selected departments of Shariati Hospital affiliated to Tehran University of Medical Sciences.

    Methods

This cross-sectional study was conducted in Tehran in 2016-2017 on 487 participants who were selected by convenience sampling method. The data collection tool was the questionnaire of patients' rights awareness. The scores obtained were based on the individual's point of view regarding the observance of the right in question and ranged from 1 (not observed at all) to 5 (completely observed).

    Findings

Based on the results of this study, doctors and nurses have reported less realization of patients' rights compared to patients. Patients, nurses and doctors, respectively, agree with the greater realization of patient rights in the areas of observance of justice (4.54±0.96), being polite to the patient (4.17±0.90), and quality of service in a scientific sense (3.37±0.85). In addition, patients reported less realization of patients' right in the areas of responsibility and accountability (3.03±1.59) (p=0.000), and nurses and doctors reported less realization of patients' rights in the areas of attention to the patient's well-being and comfort (3.45±0.99) and (2.48±0.84) (p=0.000).

    Conclusion

The findings of the study showed that, in general, the attitude of the patients indicated that the patient's rights were better fulfilled compared to the doctors and nurses. of course, the views of service receivers and service providers were different regarding the degree of compliance with different dimensions of patient rights in the hospital, and it is necessary to prioritize the views of patients as service receivers and main beneficiaries in the interventions, and the service providers should be informed about it and the solutions to solve the existing shortcomings should be identified and appropriate action should be taken to solve them.

    Objective

The aim of this study was to compare, review and evaluate the prior studies about patients right that have been made, to this point, regarding patient rights in Iran and Iraq.

    Methods

This is a review study conducted by searching the Iranian and Iraqi databanks such as: Scientific Information Database(SID), Iranian Research Institute for Information Science and Technology, Iran Medex and Academic scientific journals Iraqi and google scholar for both Iranian and Iraqi articles from 2002 to 2017 using the keywords such as "Patient Rights", "Patient Rights Charter", "Patient Rights Observance", "Iraq", "Iran", and "Patient Awareness and Rights".

    Results

Total of 32 Iranian and Iraqi articles, only 25 of which achieved the goal of our study.

    Conclusion

The growing number of articles published indicates that from 1999 forwards, this topic began to attract the attention of Iranian researchers in a gradual manner, as for the Iraqi researchers, their attention has been attracted from 2013 onwards. and despite the poor knowledge of physicians about the patients' rights in Iran; they have shown acceptable awareness and attitude regarding some patients' rights. The same is true for Iraqi doctors and health care providers, but they have shown unsatisfactory consequences for some of the rights of Iraqi patients. Recommendation: Patient education through media and careful observation of the Patient Rights Charter, and educating healthcare professionals, and developing professional training on patients' legal rights by engaging them in educational sessions and lectures on patient rights is necessary. Adequate monitoring of practice according to the Patient Charter is strongly suggested.

    Introduction
In recent years, protection of the rights of hospitalized psychiatric patients became a key issue in the delivery of care to these people. Despite its importance, little research has been conducted on this topic and little information exists that focus on assessing and comparing the attitudes of psychiatric patients and nurses. The current study aimed to determine the differences in attitude of nurses with those of patients at the Ibn Sina hospital in the Shiraz towards multiple facets of psychiatric patients’ rights .
    Method
This cross-sectional descriptive study was done among nurses and hospitalized patients in a psychiatric hospital to determine their attitudes toward patient rights . data was collected by two questionnaire that were designed for nurses(22 questions) and patients, (29 questions) . Data was analyzed by SPSS19 software using descriptive statistics, Chi-square and Pearson correlation tests.
    Results
In this study was conducted on 60 nurses and 100 patients admitted to various wards of Ibn Sina hospital in the Shiraz city. More than half of nurses (78.3%) were agreed with the necessity of informing the mentally ill patients about their rights at the time of admission in medical center. The result showed that majority of both groups agreed with active participation of the patients in decision-making related to their health care. According to this survey, more than half of patients deemed the rules of hospitalization of mentally ill patients such as: possibility of refusal/withdrawal of the proposed treatment or leaving the hospital contrary to the medical advice, while only 38.3% of nurses were agreed to those rules in some clauses . (P value = 0.000).
    Discussion
In order to protect rights of mentally ill patients, their family and society, we should identify weaknesses and shortcomings of the basic right of this group and give suggestions for its improvement. considering a bill of rights which cover the needs of mentally ill patients, could be a turning point for improvement of the quality of care as well as increasing patient's satisfaction.

    Background
Despite many studies, we are still in need of more investigations aiming at the implementation of patients’ rights in Iran; this would be more important concerning vulnerable groups like women. In this way, we have tried to study how much are Iranian women justified about Iranian patients’ rights charter and how much are their rights observed during hospitalization.
    Methods
In this descriptive cross-sectional study, 150 competent in-patients were selected by simple random sampling. A previously validated (face, content, and construct validity) and reliable (Cronbach’s alpha = 0.92) questionnaire was used to collect data. The questionnaire was designed based on the last version of Iranian patient rights charter and included four subscales. The data were analyzed by SPSS 21 using parametric statistics.
    Results
Patients’ rights charter was practiced weak (0.76 ± 0.24 out of 3) according to the patients. The weakest score was observed for the dimension of ‘accountability and handling of complaints’ (0.09 ± 0.27). Generally, the participants placed a relative importance (justified relatively well) for the charter (2.20 ± 0.46). Additionally, the "importance" of the rights was also significantly different regarding patients’ educational (P
    Conclusions
According to the findings, more attempts should be implemented aiming at informing and sensitizing women about their rights. Therefore, establishing and/or supporting the following measures could be helpful: hospital and media-based advising programs for both patients and professionals, patients’ rights movements, systematic controls and supervisions and carrying out patients’ rights as a firm policy.

    Background
Truth disclosure to patients is the cornerstone of medical ethics. However, perspectives are variable regarding telling the truth and disclosure of bad news to patients in different communities and cultures. Also, physicians, nurses, and patients have different perspectives in this respect. All these factors are responsible for the ongoing debate regarding the disclosure of truth to patients with poor prognosis.
    Objectives
This study aimed at assessing the perspectives of patients, physicians, and nurses regarding disclosure of disease status to patients with poor prognosis.
    Methods
This descriptive cross-sectional study was conducted at Neyshabur University of Medical Sciences, during year 2016. A total of 215 participants, including 105 nurses, 30 physicians, and 80 patients were selected using stratified random sampling. A researcher-designed questionnaire comprised of 3 parts was used to collect the data. It contained 7 questions regarding demographic information, 17 questions regarding the perspective of the participant about telling the truth, and 10 questions on factors affecting the decision of physicians and nurses regarding disclosure of disease information to patients with poor prognosis. The data was analyzed using the SPSS version 20 software, with descriptive indexes and Pearson correlation, chi-square, and one-way analysis of variance (ANOVA) tests; P of ≤ 0.05 was considered significant.
    Results
Generally, 100% of physicians, 94.3% of nurses, and 94.3% of patients agreed with the statement “patients have the right to know the truth about their disease”. All three groups believed that social and cultural factors are the most important parameters affecting the decision of physicians and nurses, which was statistically significant between the groups (P = 0.01).
    Conclusions
Most participants believed that it is necessary to tell the truth to the patients. Thus, in treatment of patients with poor prognosis, the truth must be told to patients in an appropriate way while the medical team needs to acquire skills in this regard.

    Introduction
The patient's right is one of the fundamental issues in health care. Correspondingly, the aim of the present study was to evaluate the awareness of patients referred to dental clinic of Semnan University of medical sciences (SUMS) about the patient's bill of right in 2016.
    Materials And Methods
This cross sectional study was conducted on 130 patients (with at least junior school education) who admitted to dental clinic of SUMS in 2016. In this account, in order to collect data, a 2-part questionnaire including 15 questions (5 personal questions and 10 questions related to awareness about patient's right) was used. Answers were categorized as "havent heard", " have heard but not completely aware of", "relatively aware of" and "completely aware of' in Lickert scale which received 0 to 3 score, respectively. Total patient's awareness was evaluated of the scores of 10 questions.
    Results
According to the results, patient's awareness of their rights was at a moderate level and the mean score was 19.05± 5.29 (out of 30). Patient's awareness of their rights was acceptable only about 2 out of 10 sections of patient's bill of right in Iran (patient's rights to receive necessary information about diagnosis and treatment options and knowing health care professionals) while the lowest score belonged to item 1 (timely treatment regardless of ethnic, cultural and religious factors). A significant relationship was found between awareness and patient's educational level (P=0.001) but the relationship between awareness and gender, age, matrimonial and residency status was not significant. (P=0.186, P=0.523, P=0.423 and P=0.717, respectively).
    Conclusion
According to inadequate awareness of patients about patient's rights, it is recommended that health care providers or educational programs including posters, pamphlets and mass media inform patients about their rights in time of admission to clinic in order to promote the patient's awareness of the patient's bill of rights.

    Background And Aim
Getting an informed consent as one of the principles of patients’ rights, is a process that he (she) decides on therapeutic intervention after receiving adequate information from the therapist team. The aim of this study was to explain the quality of the informed consent process of patients in surgical wards of a military hospital in Tehran and to present some solutions to improve it at 2016.
    Methods
The combined study was conducted in two phases. The quantitative phase was a cross-sectional descriptive study using the quality of an informed consent questionnaire that evaluated the six dimensions of informed consent with 19 questions. We evaluated the questionnaire’s content validity and its internal consistency. The Cronbach’s Alpha value of the whole questionnaire was 0.85. A stratified random sampling of 120 subjects was performed and the results were analyzed by SPSS 17 software. In the qualitative phase, which was based on the framework content analysis resulting from the results of quantitative phase, 7 experts were selected in a targeted manner and group interviews were conducted with the expert panel method. The results of the interviews were presented in two steps as: after a framework content analysis and re-approval of experts and were presented as improved suggestions.
    Results
In accessing the quality of the informed consent, the average score in the dimension of "providing information" with 18.93, "compliance with patient's decision-making competence" with 7.48, and "how to get written consent" with 5.47, were lower than the expected average, and the average score of "patient comprehension" with 9.77, "Volunteerism" with 8.16 and "Interaction between physician and patient" with 16.02, were in an acceptable level. The experts provided 15 improvement suggestions. The most important were "providing information to patients in the preparation clinic” and giving patients enough time to choose a therapeutic approach”."
    Conclusion
The quality of providing information and how to get a written consent was less than expected. Therefore, paying attention to patients’ role in the informed consent process, providing sufficient information to patients by a counseling physician in preparation clinic, training physicians and providing adequate opportunities to patients for choosing a therapeutic approach can be effective in improving the quality of informed consents.
