The Significance and Position of Love (1)

Abstract:
The present paper elaborates on Imam Sajjad's Munajat al- Moridin (whispered prayer of the devotees). In this part of the whispered prayer, Imam Sajjad refers to the highest degree of love and ardent love. The question that arises here is: Is the love of God something obligatory or something recommended and a virtue? The answer is: there are different types of love. The first is the belief in God which is of the essence in love. If one claims belief in God but ignores His decrees and does not abide by the obligations, then his belief in God is by no means true. The other type is the love whose obligatory preliminary and desirability has instrumental and unfair aspects. The type of love of God that stimulates one to do the obligations and abstain from sins is, in terms of obligatory preliminary, logically necessary. Also, love of God has recommended levels. However, the highest level of love of God is that in which one believes that all kinds of perfection belong to God and there is no independent beyond the divine perfection.
