An Analytical Study of Thematic Elements in Najib al-Keilani's Novel Al- Tariq al-Tawil

Abstract:
Novel is a kind of fictional story that in contemporary era is considered as suitable means in depicting problems and difficulties of human life as well as expressing their ideas and thoughts. This genre is made up of different components with each playing a significant role. A thematic element that is sometimes called as the main thought, topic or message is one of the fundamental element of the story. These include author’s idea about the subject matter of the story. It may be explicit or implicit. It is a means by which the author injects his ideas upon the reader. There are some clues in the text which lead readers to infer the theme of the story.The present study is about the inferring of the theme of Al -Tariq al -Tawil, a novel by a contemporary eminent Egyptian writer Najib al-Keilani. The author has presented the theme of this novel implicitly taking into account thoughts and imaginations of characters. There are ten clues for inferring the implicit themes of this novel, which can be deduced with great care.One can say that this novel, because of richness in theme, is an important ones. Also, the author, skillfully, has conveyed his ideas to readers.
