Abstract:
The main aim of the current study is to investigate the different aspects of autobiographical memory and it,s component among people who suffer from Posttraumatic Stress Disorder. Two groups of trauma survivors following Road Traffic Accident including 20 patients with PTSD as the goal group and 20 individuals who exposed with the same traumatic event but did not met the PTSD criteria (non- PTSD) as the comparison group participated in the study. All participants completed measures of autobiographical remembering, goals, self-concept, self-definition, appraisals, PTSD and depression. The results indicated that the PTSD group has showed significantly higher level of depression and PTSD symptoms. They also tended to remember more general autobiographical content than the non-PTSD group. Additionally, those with PTSD, provided significantly less specific memories and had higher levels of trauma-themed goals, self-statements and self-defining memories than trauma survivors without PTSD.
