An Investigation into the Relationship between Girl's Interpersonal Communication Motives and Satisfaction with Communication with their Fathers

Abstract:
Communication is one of the most important features of social life. Hence, the present study deals with the relationship between girls’ interpersonal communication motives (pleasure, affection, inclusion, escape, relaxation and control) and satisfaction with communication with their fathers among the female students of Shahid Chamran University of Ahvaz. The sample consisted of 195 female students who were selected though availability sampling technique. For data collection, the Communication Satisfaction Inventory (Com-Sat) and the Interpersonal Communication Motives (ICM) scale were used. The obtained data was analyzed using Pearson correlation coefficient and multiple regression. The results showed that there is a positive relationship between pleasure, affection, inclusion and relaxation as interpersonal communication motives as and satisfaction with communication. Also, the result of the multi-variable regression analalysis showed that the motives pleasure, relaxation, escape and inclusion are the best predictors of communication satisfaction. Therefore, it can be concluded that interpersonal communication motives are the predictors of the meaningfulness of satisfaction with communication.
