Hysterectomy due to placenta accreta in a primigravid woman with increased maternal age: a case report

Abnormally Invasive Placenta (AIP) is considered as a life-threatening problem in obstetrics. AIP is a growing problem in the recent decades due to the advanced maternal age and increased cesarean section. This study was performed with aim to introduce a rare case of hysterectomy due to placenta accreta in a primigravid woman with increased maternal age. Case report: The patient was a primigravid 36 years old woman with 26 weeks gestational age who was admitted due to premature rupture of membrane (PROM) and vaginal bleeding. Induction of labor was performed for vaginal bleeding at 26w، 4d due to corioamniuitis. Immediately after delivery، laparotomy was performed because of massive uncontrolled hemorrhage. At last، hysterectomy was done because of failure in conservative medical and surgical management for control of bleeding. As a result of placental pathology hysterectomy، accreta reported. The increasing prevalence of AIP may be the result of increasing rate of maternal age. One of the strategies to prevent this life-threatening complication is recommendation to marriage and pregnancy at younger age.
