The self-efficacy of Adolescents with major thalassemia and its influencing factors in Bandar Abbas

Introduction
Self-efficacy is the belief in his ability to achieve expected results. Self-efficacy can be predicted by measuring a person''s intention to change behavior. This study aimed to determine the score of general self- efficacy and disease-related self-efficacy in adolescent with major thalassemia and its association with some personal characteristics of adolescents، in Bandar Abbas.
Methods
This cross-sectional descriptive study. The sample included 70 boys and girls aged 12 to 18 years with major thalassemia. To gather data on the demographic questionnaire، the General Self-Efficacy Scale (GSE-10) and sickle cell Self-Efficacy Scale (SCSES) was used. Data collected by SPSS software version 21 was analyzed.
Results
According to the results، the mean and standard deviation related to general self-efficacy and Disease-related self-efficacy from 40 to 10 and from 45 to 9 was respectively، 5. 16 ± 29. 34 and 6. 13 ± 29. 87. Using ANOVA test found no association between age and number of injections per month with score of general self- efficacy and disease-related self-efficacy. The independent t-test showed Significant relationship between self-efficacy in adolescents with sex (P = 0. 01). But the relationship between sex and score of disease-related self-efficacy، was not significant (P = 0. 08). ANOVA test showed، no significant relation between score of disease-related self-efficacy with educational level (P = 0. 01). But there was no correlation between the general efficacy and education level (P = 0. 148).
Conclusions
Since mean score of self-efficacy in adolescent with major thalassemia is low، Emphasizes on enhancing self-efficacy with Using the experience of experts and consultants in this context it is essential، especially for boys. Interventions studies on the self-efficacy of adolescents and evaluate its effectiveness recommended.
