Synthesis and utilization of polysiloxane-polyether copolymer in car polish formulation

Abstract:
In this paper synthesis and utilization of polydimethylsiloxane-polyether copolymer in polish formulation for car colored surface is described. For this purpose hydroxyl terminated polydimethylsiloxane was synthesized by cationic ring opening polymerization of octamethylcyclotetrasiloxane، and then reacted with three functional hydroxyl terminated polypropylene glycol. The hydroxyl terminated polydimethylsiloxane and target copolymer was characterized by Fourier Transform Infra Red Spectroscopy (FTIR)، Gel Permission Chromatography (GPC) and OH value computation. The best result was achieved by a copolymer with 20% (w/w) siloxane polymer content in car polish formulation. The increased gloss and decreased polishing time of polishing process were determined. By surface impregnation with silicon material and completion polishing process and then eliminate it from surface was caused remain the thin layer of siloxane copolymer on surface and improved hydrophobic properties.
