Exploring the Impact of the Integrated Management of Nitrogen Fertilizer and Cattle Manure on the Vegetative Growth and Tuber Yield of Potato
Abstract:
In an attempt to investigate the impact of the integrated management of nitrogen fertilizer and cattle manure and their interaction effectson tuber yield and dry and fresh weight of the leaves, stems, and shoots in potato (Solanumtuberosum L.), a factorial experiment in a randomized complete block design with three replications was conducted in April 2008 in the research field of the Islamic Azad University, Roudehen Branch (located inKoliac region). The treatments includedthe nitrogen fertilizer at three levels (50, 100, and 150 Kg h-1) and the cattle manure at four levels (5, 10, 15, and 20 ton h-1). The results indicated that the separate application of the nitrogen fertilizer and cattle manure, in all of the sampling times, significantly impacted the (dry and fresh) weight of the leaves, the stems, and the shoots. Additionally, in most of the sampling times, the interaction effects of the integrated use of these two types of fertilizers significantly affected most of the aforementioned qualities. The separate use of the cattle manure and the nitrogen fertilizer along with their interaction effects also left a very significant impact on the tuber yield. The maximum tuber yield in this experiment (36.8 tons ha-1) was obtained by combining 20 tons of cattle manure with 150 kg of the nitrogen fertilizer per hectare.
