Validating the Questionnaire of Motivation and function in Face book Users of Semnan

Abstract:
Introduction
The purpose of this study was to validate Face book Users’ Motivation and Function Questionnaire in City of Semnan.
Method
540 Face book users voluntary completed the questionnaire online. The data were analyzed through exploratory factor analysis, correlation of question - total score and credit analysis in order to assess the psychometric properties of the questionnaire. Confirmatory factor analysis was also employed to examine the measurement model and the structure of internal relationships of items. Convergent and divergent validity of the questionnaire was examined by NEO Personality Inventory.
Results
Findings showed that Face book users enter this social network with six motivations such as avoiding reality, self-expressing, entertainment, communication, information seeking and habit. Face book has six functions such as grouping, friendship, business, news / information seeking, communicating and apprising. The reliability of the scales was appropriate for motivations and functions by measuring Cronbach's alpha coefficient. The findings showed that motivations such as avoiding reality, self-expressing, entertainment and habit had the highest correlation with neuroticism; and motivation such as communication and news/information seeking had the highest correlation with opening to experience. Functions such as friendship and business had the highest negative correlation with the responsibility; the group function had the highest correlation with extraversion; the communication function had the highest correlation with the responsibility; and apprising function had the highest correlation with extraversion and neuroticism.
Conclusions
It can be concluded that the questionnaire has acceptable psychometric properties and it can be used as a valid tool in psychological researches.
