Assessing waiting time patients in emergency ward of Kerman University of Medical Sciences

Abstract:
Introduction
Hospital Emergency Department is one of the most important parts. The most important task is to provide emergency medical services. Long time stay in the emergency department will cause dissatisfaction of patients and deaths from accidents will increase. This study aimed to determine waiting time patients in emergency ward of Kerman University of Medical Sciences.
Materials and Methods
In this descriptive study, study, 375 patients referred to the teaching hospital of Kerman University of Medical Sciences were selected. Data was collected by “The Revised Form of Timing and Workflow Emergency Services” and stop watch. Validity and reliability of instruments were measured. Data was analyzed by SPSS/21.
Findings
The mean waiting time, the resuscitation triage, resuscitation, emergency triage, respectively was 3.5, 133.8, 1.7and 6.8 minutes higher than the global average (p-values were<0.05). Also the semi-emergency and non-emergency triage respectively was 5.7 and 36.7 minutes lower than the global average (All p-values were<0.05).
Conclusion
Waiting time to receiving emergency services in present study was higher than international standards. To reach to international standard, revising the process of patient’s services in emergency ward and also training of personnel is suggested.
