A Sociological Analysis of Social Media's Effects on the Iranian Youth's Values

Abstract:
The present article is to investigate the relationship of the presence and transaction in social media with the youth’s values. The main question is that: what effects the use of social media has on the youth’s commitment to values? This article was conducted using as survey research and employing voluntary and convenience sampling and also an internet-based, researcher-made questionnaire. The population of the study included young users of social media in five cities of Isfahan, Tehran, Tabriz, Mashhad, and Sari in 2014. The sample size consisted of 2100 individuals. The findings of the present study indicate that there is reverse and significant correlation of the membership duration in social media, the degree of using social media, the type of using, and considering real the content of texts and contents presented in social media with the youth’s commitment to family, religious, and socio-cultural values.
