Content Analysis of Traditions of Commentary Ascribed to Ali Ibn Ibrahim Qummi

Ali Ibn Ibrahim Qummi is one of the Shi`a most outstanding transmitters of Hadith from whom many traditions have been quoted in authentic Shi`a Hadith books. A commentary book also ascribed to him is existent now, but because some true and false materials are mingled with them, there are some doubts in ascribing them to this great scholar. When reviewing the existent defects in the commentary ascribed to Ali Ibn Ibrahim Qummi, some heterogeneous, weak, and superstitious traditions and material are seen that damages its authenticity and highlights the necessity of its refinement.
The present article outlines the most important content defects in Tafsir Al-Qummi by analyzing and classifying them into nine parts: doubt about distortion of Quran, lack of consistency of some traditions with the context of the verses, conflict between the traditions of Tafsir Al-Qummi and definite beliefs of Imamites, as well as entering Israiliyyat into it and expressing some insulting matters about the holy prophets are some of the content difficulties of this commentary which has encountered cutting remarks and rejection of religious scholars. Some irrational and exaggerating, or conflicting matters with scientific certainties are also seen in Tafsir Al-Qummi. The present research analyzes all the content defects with illustrating examples and taking use of authentic sources.
