War as a stressor event has different acute and chronic consequences such as Post-traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). In recent years, the problems relevant to the early maladaptive schemas in PTSD have become an important research area. The aim of this study was to assess the early maladaptive schemas in patients with acute & chronic PTSD.
Method
According to Available Sampling Method and diagnostic criteria, 30 patients with chronic PTSD, 30 patients with acute PTSD and 30 normal military personnel who were matched on the basis of age and condition of the war, were selected and were assessed by Young Schema Questionnaire-Long Form, Beck Depression Inventory (BDI-II) and Beck Anxiety Inventorty (BAI).
Resualts: The results showed that both acute and chronic patients with PTSD in comparison to the normal military personnel had higher scores in all early maladaptive schemas. Also, in some early maladaptive schemas, some remarkable differences had been observed between patients with acute and chronic PTSD.
Discussion
The results of the present study have a lot of preventive, diagnostic, clinical, research and educational implications in PTSD.
