Relationship between Perceived Self-Efficacy and Compliance of the Recommended Diet in Menopausal Women with Hypertension in Qom city, 2014

Abstract:
Background And Aim
Hypertension, which is a real hazard for the health of our society, is unfortunately prevalent among women especially menopausal women. Since self-efficacy is a mediator for self-care among patients with chronic diseases, we aimed to determine the relationship between perceived Self-efficacy with complying the recommended diet in menopausal women with Hypertension in Qom city.
Methods
This descriptive-analytic study was conducted on 211 menopausal women with hypertension selected through multi-stage sampling in Qom city, 2014. The instruments were demographic questionnaire, anthropometric check list and research-made self-efficacy questionnaire Confirmed through an organized interview. Using SPSS16 software, the data was analyzed by independent T-test (p≤ 0.05).
Findings: The mean and standard deviation in menopausal women was 60.6±8.9 years. The mean duration of hypertension was 6.2±5.5 years. The mean of self-efficacy in menopausal women was 24.4 in an accessible range of 8-40. Conclusion
Given that the nutritional self-efficacy of menopausal women with hypertension is not at the desirable level, the health officials should consider enhancing their self-efficacy via special educational programs.
