The relationship of time perspective with tendency to substance abuse in girl adolescents

Abstract:
Abstract
Purpose
This Research was conducted to study relationship between time perspective and tendency to substance abuse in adolescents.
Methods
statistical society were all high school girls in Tehran, Among them 405 students were selected by multistage sampling, Zimbardo Time Perspective Inventory and addiction potential scale were employed.
Results
Pearson correlation and stepwise regression were used to analyze data. results of Pearson correlation showed a significant positive correlation between Past negative, Present Hedonistic, Present fatalistic and tendency to substance abuse. Results also showed a significant positive correlation between future time perspective and tendency to substance abuse. In addition, Result of Regression analysis revealed that among dimensions of time perspective, Four dimensions of past negative, Present hedonistic, future and Present fatalistic are predictor variables with conditions of entry to final regression equation to explain tendency to substance abuse.
Conclusion
time perspective as important and key factor in tendency to substance use. The study suggests training one toward future time perspective and educating one how to delay immediate enjoyment by considering the consequences of present actions in order to have a balanced time perspective can be effective in preventing substance abuse in adolescents.
