An assessment of ontological and epistemological aspects of estimation from the viewpoint of Avicenna and Mulla Sadra

Abstract:
One can make a rational analysis of the faculty of estimation from the ontological and epistemological perspectives. Study shows that Sadrian and Avicennian philosophies have never denied the faculty of estimation as a secondary source of psychological acts and percepts. Instead, each philosophy has given a special and distinct place to it. Some of the principles of transcendental theosophy have affected various ontological aspects of the faculty of estimation causing controversy about the identity of estimation and its relation with soul, estimated perception, reason and other cognitive faculties. The views of these two philosophers about the epistemic aspects of this faculty are very similar with each other. They only differ from each other when it comes to the nature and ontological identity of the estimated perception
