The Role of Language in Reflecting the Patriarchal Viewpoints: A Case Study of Rowzane Abi by Akbar Radi

The unequal relationship between men and women has always kept power in the hands of men and acknowledged it as men’s right. In addition to accepting it, the women have had to instill this right into the minds of their offspring. A domain in which this inequality is apparent is the violent speech with which women and children, especially the female ones, are addressed. This is, of course, done to bring them up as obedient to the wills of fathers and husbands. The present study aims at investigating male (husband and father) linguistic violence in Rowzane Abi by Akbar Radi and to answers the following two main questions: 1. how does language help the survival of patriarchy? 2. What strategy is mostly used to hide the linguistic violence of the male characters? The results indicate that male linguistic violence is used as a means of helping patriarchy survive and the strategy that is so helpful in this regard is to hide the male linguistic violence.
