Information and Media literacy of Librarians Tehran Public Libraries and Providing Solutions to Improve Their Literacy

The aim of this study was to determine the Information and Media literacy of librarian in Tehran’s public libraries. The method of this study is descriptive- analytical approach that describes the status of Information and Media literacy literacy librarians. In the first stage, selected 150 librarians that work at the public library in Tehran. The data collection tool is a questionnaire that designed based on the components and indicators announced by UNESCO for Information and Media literacy. In next step calculated validity (formal logic) and reliability was calculated based on Cronbach’s Alpha. Finally analyzed data by One-sample T test in SPSS software. Findings showed that the components of interaction and ethical use of Information and Media literacy with mean of 22/7 and knowledge creation component with mean of 13/2, respectively had the highest and lowest mean among components. findings show that librarians of the public libraries of Tehran have the skills and competence to promote Information and Media literacy among library members. Organizing in-service training courses, getting acquainted with media and information content providers, familiarizing with valid sources and media, evaluating resources and content, sharing and creating methods of knowledge and developing ethical guidelines to help raise the level of Information and Media literacy of librarians.
