This paper examines the literature on sustainable development, the historical development of natural disaster, the methods of assessing sustainable urban development and its criteria and indicators, especially in Iran, because the theoretical foundations of these discussions in Iran are less well-known. Since there are different methods and indicators for assessing urban sustainability, as discussed in the paper, there is necessity for the development of a micro-urban urbanization which is precise and comprehensive in the form of a conceptual framework.
