The Goals of Education and Nurturance and their Requisites, with an Emphasis on Avicenna’s View on the Soul

Message:
Abstract:
The present study aims at resolving some of the issues in educational system and moving towards compiling a local theoretical-philosophical support for the goals of education and its requisites on the basis of Avicenna’s view on the soul. The research method was analytical-inferential, and the results showed that the ultimate goal of education for Avicenna is achieving the true felicity (intellectus adeptus), and the intermediary goals under the stages of the soul are devices for realization of this goal, and their requisites are placed under the requisites of the ultimate goal. According to the findings of the study, Avicenna’s view is not restricted to the formal education, and the body’s health must be considered in any stage. Avicenna’s educational system is a rational system; and for him, intuition is the very intellectual intuition. This study also shows that selecting prominent teachers, beginning education along with appropriate physical growth, and paying attention to individual differences have a fundamental role in realization of the goals.
