Abstract:
Background & Aim

Regarding the sensitivity and consequences of cognitive deficits in nurses, it is necessary to consider the factors associated with cognitive impairment and intervention. The present study examined the role of meta-cognitive beliefs and cognitive avoidance in predicting cognitive failures of nurses.

Materials & Methods

This study was a descriptive-correlational study. The statistical population included all nurses working in hospitals in Tabriz in 2018. The sample size consisted of 100 nurses working in 5 specialized educational and specialized centers of Tabriz who were selected by cluster random sampling method. Participants were evaluated using Wales and Hatton meta-cognitive beliefs questionnaire, Sexton and Dougas cognitive avoidance questionnaire and Bradbent cognitive failures questionnaire , and data were analyzed by using Pearson correlation, multiple regression tests and SPSS version 24.

Results

The results showed that there is a significant positive correlation between cognitive impairment of nurses with metacognitive beliefs (P <0.01) but there is no significant relationship with cognitive avoidance variable. Regression results also showed that the model was meaningful and%32 of the variance of cognitive failures was predicted by the model.

Conclusion

Considering that nurses play an important role in improving the health of the community, In particular, meta-cognitive beliefs in this study have a significant relationship with cognitive failures of nurses, eliminating the underlying factors is considered as a health priority.
