Relationship between attitude and practical commitment to prayer with subjective well- being in chronic renal failure patients
Chronic renal failure causes a decrease in mental health and life satisfaction. Prayer as a religious coping strategy can be a great help to subjective well-being in these patients. This study aimed to investigate relationship between attitude and practical commitment to prayer with subjective well-bring in chronic renal failure patients admitted in selected hospitals in kashan city, 2019.
This study was a descriptive analytical research. 180 patients were selected through census method. The research tools included: background information questionnaire, attitude and practicing prayer questionnaire, and Edinburgh subjective well-being questionnaire. Data were analyzed by SPSS version 16 using t-test, Pearson correlation coefficient and regression analysis.
The findings of this study showed that 59% of subjects were male, 80.6% were married, mean score of attitude and practical commitment to prayer (on a scale of 200-0) and subjective well-being (on a scale of 147-14) in the patients under study was 144.92±28.73 and 52.57±4.64, respectively. The variables of attitude and practical commitment to prayer and non-other underlying illness, in addition to renal failure, explained 74% and 20% of the variance of subjective well-being score, respectively. There was a statistically significant relationship between employment status and place of residence with subjective well-being, so that the scores of subjective well-being were higher in unemployed and rural patients.
Subjective well-being of patients in this study was high, the score of attitude and practical commitment to prayer and non-other underlying illness can be the important variables related to subjective well-being.
