Abstract:

Soul is a useful word in Quranic sciences, philosophy, ethics, etc. The plurality of meanings of this term can be problematic in various sciences and even among commentators, because in many positions, the similar words leads to different meanings. Therefore, studying and discussing about this key word in the Quran can solve many of its ambiguities in various sciences. For the word soul, there are several meanings in the vocabulary books, including: spirit, essence, truth of the object, etc. This term and its derivatives are used in numerous verses of the Qur'an. Somewhere the God swore to soul, he addressed the soul somewhere else, while different meanings of this term, such as: the emphasis of meaning, the human being, the essence and the truth of the object, are inferred. In the present study, all verses in which the word "soul" was used, have been investigated and the concept of the soul has been examined from the viewpoint of theologians and commentators, and the views have been compared and criticized.
