The Effect of Yalom Group Therapy on Resiliency and Communication Skills in Students
Resilience is the ability to learn, manage, and adapt to difficult situations and to respond flexibly to the stress of life. Due to the fact that students suffer from emotional issues such as distance from family and requires communication skills, so this study was conducted to investigate the effect of Yalom group therapy on resilience and communication skills of students.
This study was a quasi-experimental research project of pretest-posttest type with control group. The statistical population of the study included all psychology students, from which 32 people were randomly selected and divided into two groups of 16 experimental and control according to the inclusion and exclusion criteria. The experimental group then underwent Yalom group therapy for 10 sessions and both groups answered to Connor and Davidson (2003) Resilience Questionnaire and Barton Communication Skills Questionnaire (1990) as pretest and posttest. Data were analyzed using multivariate analysis of covariance and univariate analysis of variance in SPSS software version 25.
The results showed that Yalom group therapy increased resilience (pretest: 66.06±3.51; posttest: 89.68±6.71). Also, using univariate analysis of variance, there was a clear increase in communication skills scores after Yalom group therapy (pre-test: 18.00±4.32; post-test: 41.31±3.53), which indicates on Improving communication skills in students.
Yalom group therapy is an effective intervention on students chr('39')resilience and communication skills improving them, and considering that these skills play essential roles in studentschr('39') life and increase resilience, the data of this study can be used to improve studentschr('39') health.
