Effectiveness of metacognitive therapy (MCT) on reduction of worry and metaworry of individuals with symptoms of generalized anxiety disorder (GAD)

Abstract:

The aim of present study was investigating the effectiveness of meta cognitive therapy on reduction of worry and meta worry of individuals with symptoms of generalized anxiety disorder. Two participant were selected by diagnostic interview . the individuals underwent the treatment subsequent obtaining treatment requirement. Multiple baseline experimental single subject case study was used as the method of the study. Meta cognitive therapy was carried out for 8 sessions, with one month follow up. For gathering data Pennsylvania State Worry Questionnaire and Wells meta worry questionnaire were used. Data analysis depict that Meta cognitive therapy had considerable impact on decreasing of worry and meta worry of participants. The results continued during the follow up period. Result of this research demonstrated that meta-cognitive therapy which focuses on controlling of cognitive process instead of cognitive content of cognitive processes can be effective in treatment of people with symptoms of generalized anxiety disorder.
