Investigating the Impact of Sanctions on Human Security; with emphasis on human health (Case Study: United States and the Islamic Republic of Iran)
Security throughout history has always been one of the basic concerns of human societies and today is one of the most important concerns of countries. Security is one of the basic concepts in the study of political geography and geopolitics that has undergone many changes in different historical periods. For example, in the past, the role of hard power factors such as military and law enforcement forces, in other words, arm and sword power in determining security and survival of life was crucial, but today the role of soft power factors such as diplomacy, short-term, medium and long-term strategic plans. .. Which are located in the civilian dimension and control most of the political, cultural, economic, social spheres, have a greater impact on creating security. As mentioned above, security has various dimensions that in the present study, human health will be addressed as one of its dimensions. Human security in general and human health in particular has been one of the basic human needs since the beginning of human existence, and everyone agrees on the necessity of its existence. With the formation of the contemporary geopolitical system based on the global economic market system and the global Internet networks, the world's hegemonic powers and superpowers are using, or rather abusing, these systems and networks to impose various pressures or sanctions on countries whose policies are inconsistent. The United States, as a world power, has always used this approach to create security. The present study intends to investigate the dimensions of the impact of US sanctions on the human health of people in Iran using descriptive-analytical methods and using statistics and documents, in the form of libraries and the Internet. The findings show that US unilateral sanctions against Iran have had a negative effect on human health, including medical equipment, the supply of medicines for special patients, basic goods and food quality, and have caused many problems. The replacement of the embargo on goods has led to smuggling and has damaged human quality and health. This article is an excerpt from the dissertation on the geopolitical explanation of the impact of US economic sanctions on Iran's political geography at Birjand University.
