Analytical study of the aesthetic features and aspects of the works of Hossein Dastkhosh Hamedani, a coffee house painter

The coffee house painting was created in the late Qajar period and constitutional movement with martial, feminist, and religious backgrounds by uneducated artists in coffee houses. One of the school’s artists is “Hossein Dastkhosh Hamedani” who, in addition to coffee house painting with epic and religious themes, has been working on a variety of fields, including the Dervesh curtains, and has become one of the leading figures. The present study, along with a review of the artistic activity and introduction of the artist, has explained aesthetic aspects, composition, form and color in the works of noted artist. The main questions of the research are: 1. What is the aesthetic aspects of the artwork of a coffee house painting by Hossein Dastkhosh Hamedani? 2. What is the difference between the artist's works and other painters in the coffee house? This research is conducted in a descriptive-analytical method and with a comparative study. To collect required information, library and field documentation methods are used by observing works, interviews and taking photographs of the original paintings. The results of the research show that the different experiences of the artist in other areas of painting have had a positive effect on improving the quality, visual, technical and content of the coffee house painting, and the artist's greatest influence has been from the working style of deceased “Modabar”. One of the aesthetic aspects of the artist’s works is to focus on architecture and decorations, and to take into account the principle of beauty in the creation of works, by avoiding bloodshed and introducing personal intentions and feelings in polishing portraits. Also, of the distinct features of his works is to create a balance between imagination and realism and to avoid mistakes.
