A Comparative Study of the Environmental Propositions in the Qur'an and the Psalms of the Old Testament
The various kind of environmental damage have led the thinkers of different religions to think more deeply religious teachings in order to prevent a global environmental catastrophe. There are several ethical propositions bout environment protection in the teachings of monotheistic religions and as a symbol and sign of its creator nature is one of the purposeful creation that testifies to God’s mercy to the human beings by enabling them to subjugate the universe. focusing on the Qur'an and the book of the Psalm of the Old Testament, this study seeks to discover and extract the common themes of the natural environment. The study findings show that the Holy Quran and the Psalms of David have many common themes, regarding three aspects: ontological, matters, the relationship between nature and God and the relationship between man and nature. In his encounter with nature, man has two ways righteousness and corruption; righteousness leads to inheriting the earth whereas involvement in corruption on earth, makes man, like his predecessors, face the wrath of nature. The research findings show that, there are similarities between the Qur'an and the Psalms in, in some cases, in addition to their sharing similarities the themes.
