Predicting of Marital Adjustment based on Cognitive Triad and Irrational Beliefs in Couples
The aim of this study was to predict marital adjustment based on cognitive triad and irrational beliefs in couples.
Design of this study was descriptivecorrelational. Statistical population of the study consisted of all young couples living in Semnan city in 2020. Participants were 382 male and female that were selected by two-step randomize sampling and voluntary basis, among all young couples. The study tools included Graham B.Spanier, Dyadic Adjustment Scale(DAS), Beckham Cognitive Triad Inventory(CTI) and 4 factors of Irrational Beliefs Test-Ahvaz (4IBT-A). For data analysis, a structural equation modeling was used.
The structural equation modelling of cognitive triad and irrational beliefs with marital adjustment directly demonstrated significant fitness. The direct path coefficient between cognitive triad with marital adjustment was negative and significant (P= 0/001). Also, the direct path coefficient between irrational beliefs with marital adjustment was negative and significant (P= 0/001).
Irrational beliefs about the couple's relationship that originate from negative and distorted thought patterns and cognitive distortions that result from distorted perceptions, cause anger, depression, constant arguing and incompatibility with the spouse. From this perspective, identifying and addressing these factors provides a deeper understanding of difficulties in Marital adjustment. It is suggested that in an effective treatment context address the variables expressed in the form of treatment protocols.
