Predicting Internet Addiction Based on Variables of Loneliness and Sleep Quality Mediated by Emotion Regulation in Married Women
Internet addiction has become a serious public health problem in world Wilde. Recent studies indicate an increasing trend of this addiction among married women. Therefore, the present study was conducted to predict Internet addiction based on the variables of loneliness and sleep quality mediated by emotion regulation in married women.
The present study was a descriptive correlation with the structural equation method. The statistical population of the study was married women in Tehran, 363 of who were selected by convenience sampling. Data collection tools included the Davis Internet Addiction Questionnaire (2001), short form of the DiTommasso et al (2004) for Adult Socio-Emotional Feeling of Loneliness Scale, the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Questionnaire (1989), and the Grass & John Emotion Regulation Questionnaire (2003).
Data analysis using structural equation analysis with correlation, regression and path analysis showed that the research model has a goodness of fit. All direct and indirect relationships were confirmed and it was found that the variables of feeling lonely and sleep quality, with the mediation of emotion regulation, can predict Internet addiction in married women (P <0.05).
According to the findings, it seems that the necessary training for the optimal use of the Internet, measures to reduce feelings of loneliness by improving interpersonal relationships, especially in marital relationships, increasing sleep quality through sleep health education, and improving strategies Emotion regulation through proper control and expression of emotions in married women should be considered.
