Assessing the vulnerability of urban spacesto natural hazards with physical resilienceapproachCase study: Zargandeh neighborhood of Tehran
Natural disasters, which are part of the process of human life, are a major challenge for the sustainable developmentof human societies. Consequently, the prevailing view of focusing on merely reducing vulnerabilityhas shifted to increasing resilience to disasters. Resilience is defined as “the amount of destruction and loss that asystem can absorb without going out of equilibrium” and “the ability of a system to self-organize in different conditions”.This research was conducted with the aim of identifying the vulnerability of urban spaces in Zargandehneighborhood of Tehran and adopting strategies for resilience of vulnerable spaces. This research is applied andusing the quantitative research method and descriptive-analytic approach, are extracting the indicators of physicalresilience and measuring them in the scope of the study. in order to finalize the indicators, a questionnaire ofurban science experts, and to prioritize them of Analytical Hierarchy Process (AHP) has been used. The resultsof the evaluation show that the texture and urban spaces of the central and eastern parts of the region are morevulnerable than other areas due to deterioration, Low width streets, access problems and high population density. Finally, it seems that taking measures to reduce the weakness of physical systems in urban spaces, as well as theeducation and making culture in the local community in the face with natural disasters, can be taken to promoteresilience.
