Recreating the Entrepreneurship Ecosystem Model of Third Generation University (Case Study: University of Tehran)

Abstract:

University entrepreneurship is one of the basic discourses of Iran's higher education system. However, so far little research has been done on the entrepreneurial ecosystem of the University of the Entrepreneur to make the university's entrepreneurial actions more effective. Accordingly, the purpose of this study is to identify the components of the entrepreneurship ecosystem of the third generation university to provide a model. This qualitative study has been carried out using a systematic ground-breaking method. Therefore, the data were used through purposive sampling and through semi-structured interviews with 22 in three groups; Data were collected from eight faculty members of the Faculty of Entrepreneurship, University of Tehran, ten managers of companies located in the Science and Technology Park of the University of Tehran, and four business start-up consultants in the Science and Technology Park of the University of Tehran. Findings In the first stage of open coding, 398 concepts were extracted and in the form of four main categories; Scientific-academic factors (education, research and learning system); Governance factors (entrepreneurial perspective, management, rules and regulations, communications, support and business start-ups), infrastructure factors (soft infrastructure, hard infrastructure) and taxation (supply and allocation) were categorized. Then, in the axial coding stage, the links between these categories were drawn under the following headings: causal conditions, axial behavior, strategies, contextual factors, intervening conditions and consequences of the third generation university entrepreneurial ecosystem in the form of axial coding paradigm model. Finally, based on the research findings, policy proposals were made for the Iranian higher education system.
