Personnel, Possibilities, and Preparations standards Performance (SP) in Emergency Departments (ED) in Lorestan, iran

Abstract:
Background

Nowadays, ED standardization is one of the most of important priorities in Health system, but in EDs or emergency centers has been reported in Iran.

Materials and Methods

This Cross-sectional study was done to determine SP of personnel, Possibilities, and preparation in EDs in Lorestaruriran, from January to March 2005. Data gathered by a Questionnaire (397 questions in 6 groups) by observation (check list) and interview in all of EDs (10 EDs). The main questions were related to SP of personnel ethics, possibilities, emergency's trolley and repository that gathered twice without any notification. Then, the mean of positive answers to ethics items, possibilities, preparations, and drugs items commented as Poor SP (less than 50% positive answers), Moderate SP (50-70%), Relatively SP (more than 70%) or Complete SP (100%).

Findings

In This Study Bed occupying in three EDs were more than 50%, and in others, were less than 30%. Mean time of arrival to getting the first care was between 5-10 minutes. The number of visitors was more than 70 in 24 hours in two EDs. In general, the SP related to possibilities, preparations, drugs, equipments and ethics for clients and their accompanying, didn't Complete in all of EDs. 80% of EDs had severe need to neurosergeon. In two EDs, Physicians were not qualified to perform the emergency care and CPR. In seven EDs the numbers of nursing personnel were more than standards. Only one of the EDs had 25 of 28 first line drugs. Ethics SP for clients and their accompanying in three EDs was poor and undesirable. Only 27 of 48 necessary items were found in one of EDs related to encounter of disaster and crisis. Also, SP for need to use of standard emergency cabinet in only one of EDs was maximum 23 of 32 (Moderate SP).

Conclusions

In This Study The results showed much inadequantely and unstandard criteria related to equipments, possibilities, preparations, drugs, and ethics in Lorestan's EDs. of course, seven EDs had SP for nurse number; even one of them was more than standards.
