Epidemiology, Clinical Features and Consequences of falling Injury in a Tertiary Trauma Center of North-East of Iran at 2018
Falling injury is one of the most common reasons of trauma around the world. Unfortunately the socioeconomic consequences of falling are remarkable and it is reasonable to prevent these events versus treatment the patients. The first step to prevent of an accident is recognizing of its reasons. This study was conducted to evaluate the preventable reasons and consequences of falling injury
This is a retrotrespective study which evaluated 700 patients that managed in a tertiary trauma center of North-East of Iran at 2018. Reasons, type of injures, treatments, rehabilitations and their costs were evaluated.
According to the results, 24.2% of the causes of falls were domestic accidents, 20.14% were industrial accidents and 25.7% were due to non-observance of occupational safety issues. 63% of patients needed surgery during the treatment process and 3.1% of the victims unfortunately died. 73% of the falls in the study were preventable, which is practically maintainable considering the cost of $ 722.23 for each treatment. On the other hand, 68.1% of patients were under 40 years old, which shows that prevention of falls plays an important role in protecting the active part of the society.
Education, close observation of supervisory organization and preparing of personal protective equipments can prevent of falling injury and its consequenceseffectively.
