Prediction of obsessive-compulsive in student base on perfectionism of parents and coping style with stress
The aim of this study was to prediction of obsessive-compulsive in student base on perfectionism of parents and coping style with stress.
This study utilized a descriptive correlational type design and the statistical population of this study included of all students of Azad University, Roodehen Branch and their fathers and mothers in the first semester of 2015-2016 with the quantity of 12000 subject which through Agriculture and Science, Management and Accounting, Persian literature and foreign languages and Engineering colleges, 150 subjects through multiple randomized sampling base on proposed formula of Green 1991 were selected. The study tools were Perfectionist Checklist (Hill, Huelsman, Furr, Kibler, Vicente et al, 2004) which was completed by father or mother of students and were Coping Inventory for Stressful Situations (Endler & Parker, 1990) and Padua Inventory of obsessive compulsive disorder (Sanavio, 1980) which was completed by children. Data were analyzed using multiple regression analysis.
The results showed that concern over mistakes (β=0.308, P0.01), discipline and organization (β=0.240, P0.01), rumination (β=0.302, P0.01) and high expectations of others (β=0.241, P0.01) and problem-focused coping (β=-0.190, P0.05) and emotion-focused style (β=0.275, P0.01) predicted OCD in students.
The personality traits of parents, such as perfectionism, have effect on formation and persistence of obsessive-compulsive disorder. The people with the symptoms of obsessive-compulsive disorder more use emotion-focused style that probably they have relation with pathology and exacerbation of obsessive-compulsive symptoms in this people. Therefore, it is recommended, involved factors related to family and psychological factors in the borderline personality disorder should be considered in the treatment programs.
