Investigating the Impact of Open-Ended Approach

The purpose of this study is to investigate the effect of Open-Ended probloms on the problem solving ability of 7th grade female students. This research is a quasi-experimental of pre-test, post-test type having a control group. The statistical universe of the study includes all 7th grade female students of Baghbaderan in the 1392-93 academic year. The sample consisted of 62 female 7th grade students in two, experimental (32 students) and control (30 students) groups that were selected using random method. Measurement tool of this study is three exams that were designed by researchers of this syudy, and their reliablity were obtained 0.79,0.81 and 0.80. First, both experimental and control groups took pre-test, then experimental variable (Open-Ended problems) was implemented to experimental group during 11 sessions in. In control group, same topics were trained using traditional method. Then the post-test was taken for two groups. Data analysis was accomplished by using descriptive statistic method (mean, standard deviation) and inferential tests such as analysis of independent t-test and Mann-Whitney Test. Results of t-tests demonstrated that mathematical problem solving abilities of students in experimental group are more than the students of control group.
