An Analysis of Quran- and Hadith-Oriented Approaches in Nezami's Verse

Author(s):
Abstract:
This article deals with two hypotheses concerning Nezami Ganjavi's (1140?-1217? A.D.) verse. Since Nezami drew extensively on the Quran and the Hadiths, the writer identifies two distinct structures in the poet's exploitation of these two sources and, thus, concludes that they must have generally invaded and informed Nezami's whole notion of stylistics. The article also traces the strange and novel juxtapositions of words usedin the Quran and the Hadiths in Nezami's verse to illustrate the origins of the poet's contribution to making novel compound Persian expressions. It further argues that the compounds, including modifiers and the modified, which statistically abound in Nezami's verse, are his borrowings from the Quran and the Hadiths.
