Frequency of Depression and Association with Pain Sensation in Cancer Patients: a Cross-Sectional Study
Cancer is a common diseases, as well as depression is common in patients with cancer. The aim of this study was investigate the depression and severity of pain in cancer patients in oncology clinic of Bahonar Hospital.
This cross-sectional study was performed on 109 cancer patients. Data were collected using two research tools, Beck Depression Inventory (BDI) and visual acuity scale (VAS) and were analyzed using SPSS 18.
There was a significant positive correlation between severity of depression and pain severity. Also the results of stepwise regression analysis to predict depression and pain by the variables showed that only education has the ability to predict depression and pain.
Treatment of depression as a part of the cancer treatment plan, especially for patients with risk factors is essential and can play an important role for rapid return to the community.
