Abstract:
Al-Montakhb by Toreyhi (d. 1087 AH) is a book that since its writing, in addition to having a great impact on the reports of Karbala incident, has been given much attention due to its author, special prose and virtuous content. With critical-analytical approach and library method, the present study deals with the analysis and critique of the approaches, distortions and outstanding peculiarities of Toreyhi's narrations that first arose from his book and became the source of Shiite scholars in recent centuries. The way Toreyhi deals with Ashura narrations and his tremendous impact on the perception of the writers of Ashura event, especially its preachers, doubles the importance of addressing his work. Based on the findings, the narrations of al-Montakhab and also the special report of its author are sometimes unacceptable and mismatched with tradition, intellect, custom, certain events or other historical accounts, and even some narrations are inconsistent with the dignity of the infallible Imam (AS) and his family to the extent that the rudeness of content has made his report baseless. The obtained results can be used in hadith studies and researches of Ashura event.
