The Study of Relationship between Basic Psychological Needs and Risky Behaviors

This study aimed to identify the causes of the psychological tendency of adolescents to risky behaviors and ways of preventing them. The population consisted of all high school students at Shahrekord city and the sample size was 260 people which were selected using multi-stage Cluster sampling. The Method of research was correlation in procedure and tools for data collection were included the Guardia basic psychological needs questionnaire, Deci and Ryan (2000), adolescent risky behaviors questionnaire (Zade Mohammadi, 1388). The obtained data using correlation tests and stepwise regression were analyzed. The results of the study showed that the most important factor of basic psychological needs of risky behaviors of adolescents was related to competence and then autonomy respectively and police believes that the best solution to deal with this problem is using rehabilitative and educative strategies. Due to the high prevalence of risky behaviors of adolescents and its relationship with psychological factors such as identity characteristics, the results of this study can be used by rehabilitation institutions and legal decision-making entities dealing with crimes
